South Korea’s defamation laws can make negative reviews less common, so online buzz may not always reflect the full range of client experiences. Additionally, partnerships between clinics and content creators, where influencers are given complimentary treatments in exchange for promotional posts, are very common. As a result, places with the most online hype may not necessarily be the best fit for your needs.

Skincare clinics in Seoul generally fall into a few different categories, each serving different types of services and experiences.

Licensed dermatology and medical clinics have qualified dermatologists or plastic surgeons on-site and are a typical setting for more invasive or intensive services, such as injectables, laser treatments, hair-loss services, and cosmetic procedures. Visits typically begin with a doctor consultation, followed by a discussion of the procedure, pricing, and aftercare. Many clinics will share general pricing online or via WhatsApp or Kakao upon request, and several also offer English-speaking staff or on-site interpreters.

Any decisions about treatments should be made in consultation with a qualified healthcare provider.

Aesthetics studios and day spas are staffed by trained estheticians and massage therapists, and are typically best suited for wellness and relaxation-focused treatments like specialty facials, massages, body scrubs, and LED therapy. They often have private treatment rooms and bundled packages, and some offer English-speaking staff. Many can be booked online before your trip, which I always recommend.

"Factory-style" clinics are large, high-volume operations focused on quick, affordable services. They are designed with efficiency in mind, so they may have open treatment rooms and a fast pace. They’re often popular among travelers seeking convenience and accessibility, especially when privacy or a more luxurious experience is not as much of a priority.

Skincare Clinics & Spas

Seoul's beauty expertise extends well beyond skincare, with standout hair, scalp, and makeup experiences across the city.

For consistency and quality hairstyling services, Juno Hair is one of my top recommendations. A well-regarded chain with multiple locations, it's known for its high standards and skilled stylists trained in both trendy and traditional techniques. Many locations also have English-speaking staff, and it's a reliable choice for haircuts, perms, blowouts, and scalp treatments.

Don't skip a head spa while you're in Seoul. Often described as a "facial for your scalp," these multi-step treatments include cleansing, exfoliation, scalp massage, and deep conditioning. For makeup, two experiences stand out. There are makeup lessons that walk you through K-beauty techniques step by step with a professional artist so you can recreate the looks at home. There are also professional makeup application sessions, where your makeup is done for you by a professional artist. These are often booked as a lead-up to a Korean-style photoshoot, which has become another popular experience.

Hair and Makeup

If there's one beauty experience that I recommend to nearly every traveler heading to Seoul, it's a personal color analysis. With this, a trained stylist will test dozens of fabric swatches against your skin tone to identify your most flattering color palette, and the takeaways go well beyond just colors. Sessions also include recommendations on fabric prints, jewelry tones, hair color, glasses frames, makeup shades, and even perfume.

In my own session, I left with a comprehensive packet: ten color cards of my best shades, a summary of my analysis, a fashion and makeup guide, celebrity style matches, and specific product recommendations I could later go purchase at Olive Young or one of the department stores. Color analysis experiences are primarily concentrated in Gangnam, Hongdae, and Myeongdong, and the most popular providers book out weeks in advance, especially in spring and autumn, so reserve early.
